Cheneta Jana Samakya representing the weavers of Andhra Pradesh  under the leadership of Sri Macherla Mohanrao and  20 Activists started a Padayatra from Chirala( the biggest centre for handloom weavers) on 30th January 2014 to Hyderabad; the State Capital covering over 460Km on Road through handloom villages via Chilakaluripet, Piduguralla, Narsaraopet, Miryalguda, Nalgonda ,Pochampally and Hyderabad. The Padayatra reached Hyderabad on 12th and after a few roadside meetings met the Governor at Raj Bhavan and handed over a memorandum with the following demands:
1. Food for the human is the 1st essential and next is clothing immediately. For one hundred and twenty cores of people it is the cotton growers, handloom weavers, dyers, salesman who provide clothing to a Country like India where we have weather conditions that require cotton cloth only. Hence it is demanded that all Political parties should include the demands of the handloom weavers in their manifestos as the handloom sector, that employs a very large number of farmers grow cotton and weavers, dyers, salesmen etc numbering next to farmers are facing the starvation conditions.
2. Though the Government of India have made 11 varieties of Reservations to Hand loom sector, the same is violated in practice particularly by the bureaucracy. The Government should ensure the implementation of its policies as to the implementation of its policies by taking stringent action against the erring officials. The village should be empowered by transferring the Power to the Gram Panchayats for the implementation of the policies. Handloom department should be geared to file cases in case of violation of Reservation by Mill & Power loom owners.
3. Open the Purchase centers in Hand loom villages by allotment of Budget of Rs.300 Crores to ensure ready market to the handloom sector.
4. Allot Rs. 500 Crores in the State Budget for welfare measures to Hand loom weavers and other professional groups.
